My Expertise

From 1971 to 2019 when I retired, I have worked in the Social Services field for almost 50 years.  I have worked at the front-line as youth worker, clinical social worker and drug addiction therapist.  I have also worked at the administrative and executive level, heading a reformatory school and develop senior services from a small centre of 5 staff to a continuum of services with over 200 staff.  I am experienced both at the Macro level - service planning, administration and service development; and at the Micro level - group therapy, staff training at management and front-line level, and psycho-educational training for caregivers and other community clients.

My experience at executive level is extensive.  I am experienced in strategic planning, service development and staff training.  Working 24 years in senior services, I formulated the Continuum of Care Model in senior services and articulated it in an academic journal:

Chapter 4 - The Continuum of Care: A Case Study of a Senior Service Centre for Geriatric Care in Toronto, in Sustainable Health and Long-Term Care Solutions for an Aging Population.

During the 24 years at Yee Hong, I have developed the Community Services from a staff of 5 to over 200 and a budget of $300,000 to a budget of over $12 million.

Current consultancy

I am currently advising a new charity, the Gaia Community Care and Wellness Society in Vancouver to develop senior services for Chinese seniors in Richmond B.C..

micro level

​

I am an experienced social group worker and group therapist.  I started my group work in the early 1970's, venturing into T-group, sensitivity training and encounter groups.  Starting from the laboratory approach, I moved to gestalt, then to cognitive behavioural and then back to gestalt.  I have described my group work journey in the third article of my book - My Footprints (摘星足印).
